The Shopify migration playbook I use on every client engagement. Now yours to keep.
A Shopify migration isn't a website rebuild. When you're already doing real revenue, the things that go wrong aren't cosmetic. They're the things that quietly cost you money for months before anyone notices: lost SEO traffic, missing gift card balances, broken email flows, customer history that didn't make the move.
I built this playbook so none of that happens. It's the exact 132-task spreadsheet system my team uses on every Shopify migration at Moss. Five tabs, eight phases, every step in the order it actually needs to happen on a real project.
Now it's yours, for every migration you'll ever run.
What's inside
One .xlsx file you can open in Excel or drag into Google Drive. All formulas, formatting, and dropdowns transfer cleanly.
- 132 tasks across 8 phases, sequenced in the order they actually happen on a real migration
- Auto-calculating dates — change your start date once, every phase updates automatically
- Reassignable phases — move any task between phases by changing one number, and the timeline recalculates
- Live progress bars for each phase and the project as a whole
- Color-coded status: Not Started, In Progress, Blocked, Complete, N/A
- Dropdown validation so your team can't accidentally typo their way into broken data
- A client-facing Project Summary tab you can share without exposing the full task list
- 496 formulas tested with zero errors
The 8 phases
Phase 0 — Discovery & Scoping (12 tasks). Audit current platform, tech stack, SKU count, integrations. Confirm plan and timeline before committing.
Phase 1 — Kick Off & Access (10 tasks). Credentials, dev store, project workspace. Everyone has access before the build starts.
Phase 2 — Data & Migration Prep (19 tasks). Products, customers, orders, gift cards, reviews, URL redirect map. Where most migrations fail.
Phase 3 — Store Build (16 tasks). Theme, branding, collections, navigation, content pages.
Phase 4 — Apps, Payments & Integrations (19 tasks). Shopify Payments, tax, shipping, core app stack, ERP/3PL/accounting.
Phase 5 — Marketing & SEO (23 tasks). Sales channels, Google stack, email flow migration, SEO redirect implementation.
Phase 6 — Pre-Launch QA & Training (19 tasks). Full QA pass, Loom training videos, written SOPs for the client team.
Phase 7 — Launch & Post-Launch (14 tasks). Launch day checklist, 7-day bug sweep, 30-day check-in.
Who this is built for
Shopify experts, freelancers, and agencies running client migrations. Brand owners migrating their own store from Wix, BigCommerce, Squarespace, or WooCommerce. Anyone with existing SEO traffic, customer history, or email lists they can't afford to lose in the move.

Common questions
What file format is it?
One .xlsx file. Works in Microsoft Excel (desktop, web, mobile), Google Sheets, and Apple Numbers. To use it in Google Sheets, drag the file into your Drive and open with Sheets. Everything transfers cleanly.
Is this a checklist or an actual working tool?
A working tool. Change a task's phase number and the timeline recalculates. Update the project start date once and every downstream phase shifts. 496 formulas connect the tabs together.
Can I use it on multiple client projects?
Yes. Single user license covers unlimited migrations. Duplicate the file for each client. You just can't resell or redistribute the file itself.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes. If the template isn't useful to you, email me within 7 days of purchase and I'll refund you. No forms.
How long does it take to set up for a new project?
About five minutes. Open the Settings tab, edit the yellow-highlighted cells (client name, start date, owners), and the entire workbook is configured.
